Church to hold contactless, drive-up food giveaway in partnership with Feeding America

CADILLAC, MICH., May 25, 2020 - - On June 8 from 5-7pm, the
Cadillac Seventh-day Adventist Church and the youth groups “We Are
Called” and “Youth of His Message” in partnership with Feeding America will
be hosting a free, contactless, drive-up food drive event.

Here is how the event will work: People will drive up, and someone will
gather their information. After that, someone wearing protective equipment
will place an appropriately sized package of food into the inquirer’s vehicle
in a contactless manner. Nobody will have to get out of their vehicle,
making for a safe, easy way for us to serve the person.

Prior to the event, Feeding America will deliver ten thousand pounds of
food to CSDAC. We will bundle and divide all the food into packages for
different family sizes that can be placed into peoples’ cars in a contactless
manner.

“Our mission has always been to serve others,” says Brenda Nelson,
coordinator for this event. “Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have
decided to assist the community by safely distributing free food. We are
doing this because many people have been laid off or furloughed because
of the COVID-19 pandemic and are in need of food. We want to help those
in need in our community.” Nelson explained.

Since the Coronavirus epidemic turned pandemic in the United States, over
38 million people have filed for unemployment nationwide, and over 1
million people have filed for unemployment in Michigan alone. At the time of
writing, COVID-19 has claimed the lives of over 5,000 people in Michigan and has infected tens of thousands more.

“We believe that this food drive will be of great assistance for our
community members,” explained Tom Mejeur, spokesperson for Cadillac
Seventh-day Adventist Church. “In this food drive, we will be able to serve
at least 200 members of our community that are struggling to make ends
meet. In partnership with Feeding America, we hope that we can lend a
helping hand to our struggling community.”
